AI Service to Transform Cancer Detection and Care

A groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI)-powered service aimed at transforming cancer research and care has been launched, promising to reshape how cancer is detected and treated. This innovative service, funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), is the product of a collaboration between The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, digital services firm NTT DATA, and AI platform CARPL.ai.
AI-Driven Innovation in Cancer Diagnosis
The AI-powered service focuses on revolutionizing cancer detection through advanced radiology analysis. By utilizing AI to analyse medical images, the service aims to accelerate the process of diagnosing various cancers, including sarcoma, lung cancer, breast cancer, brain cancer, and prostate cancer. The technology will support clinicians by providing faster, more accurate diagnoses, enabling quicker decision-making and better-targeted treatments.

Transforming Cancer Care with Faster, More Accurate Results
The collaboration between NTT DATA and CARPL.ai has led to the development of a cutting-edge clinical imaging platform. This platform is designed to test and manage AI algorithms, enabling the development of AI models for analysing medical images. Research teams at The Royal Marsden and the Institute of Cancer Research will use the platform to test these AI models on cancer scans in real clinical settings. The goal is to enhance the speed and accuracy of cancer diagnosis, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
Shaping the Future of Cancer Treatment
Professor Mike Lewis, NIHR Scientific Director for Innovation, highlighted the transformative potential of this AI-powered service. "Cancer is one of the biggest killers in the UK. This service represents the cutting edge of cancer research and is going to revolutionize cancer treatment, better support NHS staff, and significantly improve patients' lives," he said.
Professor Dow-Mu Koh of The Royal Marsden emphasized that AI's role in supporting clinicians with earlier and more precise diagnoses could eventually lead to a transformation in cancer care across the NHS. The initiative, funded by the NIHR's Capital Funding Call, exemplifies how AI-driven technology can change the landscape of healthcare and improve patient care.
