Amazon Marks Major Robotics and AI Milestones with New Developments
Amazon’s new DeepFleet AI system optimizes a 1M-strong robot fleet across 300+ global fulfillment centers.

Amazon has reached a significant milestone in its robotics and AI initiatives, deploying its 1 millionth robot to a fulfillment center in Japan. This robot joins Amazon’s global fleet, now spread across over 300 facilities worldwide.

This achievement strengthens Amazon’s position as the world’s largest operator and manufacturer of mobile robotics, demonstrating its commitment to advancing automated systems in its supply chain.

Introduction of DeepFleet AI

In addition to this milestone, Amazon introduced its new AI technology, DeepFleet, designed to enhance the efficiency of its robotic fleet.

This generative AI foundation model will optimize the movement of robots across fulfillment centers, reducing travel times by 10% and enabling faster delivery times at lower costs. DeepFleet works by coordinating robot movements in a way similar to a smart traffic system, minimizing congestion and optimizing paths to speed up order processing.

Building on a Decade of Robotics Innovation

Amazon’s robotics journey began in 2012, starting with robots designed to move inventory across warehouse floors.

Over the years, the company has expanded its fleet with models such as Hercules, Pegasus, and Proteus, each serving different purposes, from lifting heavy inventory to navigating floors autonomously.

These robots work alongside employees, improving operational efficiency by handling repetitive tasks and allowing employees to focus on more technical work. Since 2019, Amazon has trained over 700,000 employees, many of whom are now involved in working with advanced technologies.

Practical Benefits and Workforce Impact

The deployment of DeepFleet brings real-world value by reducing robot travel time, which leads to faster deliveries, lower costs, and reduced energy usage.

Additionally, Amazon’s focus on safety and workforce development, including programs like Amazon Career Choice, underscores its commitment to enhancing employee skills and providing career growth opportunities in technical roles.
