AIIMS Patna Integrates AI-Powered Devices to Enhance Patient Care
AIIMS Patna adopts AI tools in diagnostics and surgery, aiming to revolutionize patient care and TB screening in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

A collaboration between All India institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's e-health division has been announced to incorporate AI into the medical services. The bond will aim to improve treatment across different departments, as reported by Times of India.

AI in Diagnostics and Treatment

The Cardiothoracic Surgery Division's chief, Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, discussed the innovation of AI into patient care. He expressed that AI could recognize the medical imaging such as X-rays, MRIs and CT scans and the devices can be utilized to detect things like cancer, heart disease or other neurological dysfunctions, even in cases where the indications are undetectable or misdiagnosed at first sight. The devices can be accentuated quite useful and can help identify conditions that may not be rest assured visible or discerned by the laymen eye. AI driven techniques can also assist in honing skills for an apprentice in medicine.

Advancements in Surgical Precision

The AIIMS Patna Orthopedic Department has utilized AI to introduce robotic surgery, allowing for a more accurate surgical experience. The goal of this technology is to minimize human error and increase patient care in complex surgeries.

AI-Driven Tuberculosis Screening Initiative

AIIMS Patna is implementing an AI-based TB screening program with the state health departments. Mobile units fitted with handheld x-ray machines, and AI-based diagnostic kits, will travel to remote rural areas to locate patients who have TB. The focus of this program is to care for around 200,000 current TB patients and address over 10,000 deaths in the last two years. AI might prove to be an asset in ensuring TB is found and detected early and individualized treatment plans based upon the patient's data.
