Amazon Unveils Nova Reel 1.1, Bringing Advanced AI Video Creation to Bedrock

Amazon has officially launched Nova Reel 1.1, an upgraded version of its generative AI video model, first introduced as part of the Amazon Nova foundation models at re:Invent 2024.
Nova Reel transforms text descriptions and optional reference images into short videos, and the latest update improves both output quality and processing speed for 6-second single-shot videos. Significantly, Nova Reel 1.1 now supports the creation of multi-shot videos up to two minutes long, maintaining consistent style throughout.
Users can choose between providing a single prompt for the entire video or customizing each individual shot with unique prompts, opening new creative possibilities for projects through the Amazon Bedrock platform.
Boosting Productivity and Lowering Costs for Creators
Amazon Nova Reel aims to revolutionize video production by reducing time and costs while enhancing creative output. The tool is ideal for marketers, product designers, and content creators looking to develop high-quality, visually cohesive video ads and promotional materials quickly and efficiently. With natural language prompts, users can produce compelling videos that match their creative vision.
Getting Started with Nova Reel 1.1
To access Nova Reel 1.1, users need to go to the Amazon Bedrock console, request permission under Model access, and await approval. Once granted, Nova Reel 1.1 can be used via the Amazon Bedrock console, AWS SDK, or CLI. For testing, users can select Image/Video in Playgrounds, choose Nova Reel 1.1, and generate video content by inputting prompts.
Amazon Nova Reel 1.1 offers two modes: Multishot Automated Mode, where users input a single prompt up to 4,000 characters to generate a multi-shot video, and Multishot Manual Mode, which allows users to assign individual prompts (up to 512 characters) for up to 20 shots, with the option to add images in 1280×720 resolution from base64 or Amazon S3.

Key Considerations for Users
Nova Reel 1.1 enables creators to produce ambient background videos, lifestyle content, and advertising campaigns with customizable features like camera movements and animated elements. For manual mode, it's advised to plan scenes in advance, similar to traditional storyboarding. Finished videos are automatically delivered to the user’s designated Amazon S3 bucket, simplifying the workflow.
Nova Reel 1.1 is currently available in the US East (N. Virginia) AWS Region and follows Amazon Bedrock’s standard pay-as-you-go pricing structure. Users can access the model through multiple interfaces, including the Bedrock console, AWS SDK, and AWS CLI. Full pricing details are available on the Amazon Bedrock pricing page.
