Astronomer Raises $93M to Scale DataOps and AI-Ready Infrastructure

Astronomer, the company behind Astro, a leading unified DataOps platform powered by Apache Airflow, has successfully raised $93 million in Series D funding. The round was led by Bain Capital Ventures, with participation from Salesforce Ventures and existing investors, including Insight, Meritech, Venrock, and Bosch Ventures. The company plans to use the funds to fast-track research and development and expand its global presence.

Andy Byron, CEO of Astronomer, said, “While this is just one step in Astronomer's journey to build a durable, lasting software company, we're thrilled to have one of our earliest investors, Bain, leading the round.”

He added, "All of our investors are committed to Astronomer's long-term vision because of our recent momentum, the massive market demand for the platform we're building, and the macro tailwinds that support our vision. Whether it's getting enterprise AI into production at scale, maximizing data platform value through cost optimization, or just driving more value from data in general–everything we do at Astronomer is at the heart of boardroom conversations across the world."

Momentum Behind Astronomer and Airflow

The funding comes at a time of significant growth for Astronomer and its core offering, Apache Airflow, an open-source data orchestration framework. Over the past year, Astro, Astronomer's platform, has grown features beyond data orchestration, including data observability, data lineage, data quality, and cost optimization.

Astronomer has showed solid performance in a number of critical metrics, such as a 150% annual growth in Astro's Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR), a well-defined two-year path to profitability, and a stunning 130% Net Revenue Retention. The company also maintains more than 90% product utilization among customers, highlighting the platform's value and usage within businesses.

Airflow, deployed by more than 80,000 organizations, has become more popular, particularly with the recent growth of AI and MLOps. More than 324 million times in 2024, it was downloaded. Astronomer's engineering team played a pivotal role in Airflow 3.0's release, which introduces improved security as well as scaling support for AI.
