Bosch Accelerates in China’s Software-Defined Vehicle Market

Bosch is strengthening its presence in China's fast-growing auto industry, recording a 4% revenue growth for Bosch Mobility in 2023 at 116.6 billion yuan (€15 billion). That outpaced China's 3.7% vehicle production growth, reflecting Bosch's close tracking of the country's move toward intelligent, electrified, and software-defined cars.

With more than 80% of its Chinese revenue dependent on mobility, Bosch is well-placed at the center of this revolution.

AI-Powered Cockpit

One of the highlights was Bosch's initial Chinese contract for an artificial intelligence-powered cockpit system. This innovative solution combines infotainment and driver assistance into one domain with the power of a system-on-a-chip (SoC). The system supports natural language interaction and over-the-air software updates, simplifying architecture and refining the in-car experience.

Bosch's modular Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) platform is also picking up steam. Used by six leading automakers such as BAIC and Dongfeng, it enables flexible deployment across vehicle segments, enabling manufacturers to accelerate autonomous driving capabilities with brand-specific customization.

Innovative Hardware Solutions

In core hardware innovation, Bosch introduced brake-by-wire systems, now adopted by a leading Chinese automaker, that eliminate mechanical brake linkages for improved performance and reduced complexity. The company’s steer-by-wire solution, developed with Bosch Huayu Steering Systems, will debut with three OEMs by late 2025.

At Auto Shanghai, Bosch showcased cutting-edge technologies including a 48V system, next-generation radar with proprietary SoC, and a cost-effective multifunction camera. These offerings are aimed at bringing advanced features to more accessible vehicle segments, with mass production targeted by 2026.

Driving China’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Push

Bosch is also advancing China’s push toward new energy vehicles (NEVs), which comprised 40% of new car sales in 2024. The company’s electric axle drives and silicon carbide chips boost EV range and efficiency, while fuel cell modules are already powering commercial fleets.
