The accelerating impact of Artificial Intelligence across sectors took centre stage at the AI and Cybersecurity Summit held at JW Marriott, Sector 35, Chandigarh. Organized by Hindustan Times in collaboration with Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), TiE Chandigarh, Matrin, Globe Toyota, and Aloha Intelligence, the event brought together government officials, police authorities, academicians, and tech experts under the theme “Securing Intelligence in the Age of AI.”

Minister Sond: “Digital Ethics Must Evolve with Technology”

Punjab cabinet minister Tarun Preet Singh Sond emphasized the urgent need for ethical governance in an AI-driven era. “Our generation is living in a fully digitised world where data evolves every day,” he said. Highlighting Punjab’s proactive approach, he noted that nine officers had recently cleared cybercrime certifications. “While we embrace innovation, it is crucial our regulations evolve just as rapidly,” he added, calling the summit both timely and essential.

Chandigarh Police Warn of AI-Generated Threats to National Security

Chandigarh Superintendent of Police Geetanjali Khandelwal outlined the growing misuse of AI, particularly in the realm of fake news and misinformation. “AI is being used to generate deceptive videos and messages, especially from sensitive border areas,” she cautioned. She added that Chandigarh Police has established a specialized cyber cell capable of real-time response to digital crimes, including those on the dark web. “We are vigilant in identifying and neutralizing threats through our intelligence network,” she said.

Cybersecurity Is National Security, Says TIET Director

Adding the academic voice, Padamkumar Nair, director of TIET, linked cybersecurity directly to national security. “Every dimension of safety—from corporate data to critical infrastructure—traces back to the nation’s integrity. Cybersecurity must be treated with the utmost seriousness,” he stated, urging cross-sector collaboration to safeguard digital ecosystems.
