China Mobile Explores Digital Expansion in Pakistan with Focus on AI and 5G
China Mobile's top delegation visits Pakistan’s Ministry of IT to strengthen digital ties under CPEC. Talks focused on AI-enabled data centers, 5G expansion, and digital education—advancing Pakistan’s Digital Vision through strategic tech collaboration.

China Mobile Communications Corporation’s (CMCC) senior level delegation visited Pakistan’s Ministry of IT and Telecommunication. Chairman Yang Jie headed the CMCC delegation. They had a meeting with the Federal Minister for IT, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja. The two parties discussed how the two countries could collaborate to improve digital cooperation.

The visit was a testament to China and Pakistan’s robust and consistent digital connection. Particularly in the context of the greater CPEC ecosystem and Pakistan's drive towards its Digital Vision.

The visit involved senior officials from CMCC headquarters. From the local side, the meeting involved the most important individuals such as the Secretary IT, Additional Secretary IT, Chairman PTA, and others from the ministry.

Focus Areas

The conversation focused on several core areas. This included support for building advanced, AI-enabled, energy-efficient data centers, faster development of 5G, and setting up stronger Pak-China digital connectivity through Pakistan—an important step under CPEC for improving regional networks.

Both sides also talked about boosting partnerships with Chinese content platforms and pushing for AI education in Pakistan. These steps align with the country’s digital goals—like expanding fixed broadband to 10 million households, delivering 100 Mbps internet, and pushing smartphone usage past 85%.

A Digital Future, Together

Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja appreciated CMCC’s continued interest and investments in Pakistan. She highlighted that partnerships like these matter. Epecially when it comes to widening digital access, building local talent, and strengthening infrastructure. It’s all part of the larger vision which is a more connected, digitally empowered Pakistan.
