DayOne Signs Landmark 500MW CRESS Deal with TNB in Malaysia

DayOne Data Centers, a global leader in digital infrastructure, entered into a Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) agreement with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia’s leading utility company.
The deal enables DayOne to secure up to 500 megawatts of renewable energy over a 21-year term, supporting its operations in the country. This marks DayOne as the first corporate entity to execute a Bilateral Energy Supply Contract (BESC) under the national CRESS framework, setting a new precedent for large-scale green energy adoption in Malaysia.
Solar-Powered Digital Infrastructure
The renewable energy for DayOne’s data centers will be backed by new solar generation capacity developed and operated by TNB Renewables, a subsidiary of TNB. The energy will power DayOne’s two hyperscale campuses in Nusajaya Tech Park (NTP) and Kempas Tech Park (KTP), located in Malaysia’s rapidly growing digital economy.
The agreement is a critical step in DayOne’s broader sustainability strategy, which aims to embed Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into all aspects of its operations.
Pioneering Sustainability in the Digital Economy
Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne, said, "This partnership with TNB marks a bold step forward in our decarbonization journey. It reflects the ambitious collaboration needed to power the AI-driven digital economy sustainably, and to do so at scale.”
He added, “We are proud to lead by example in Malaysia through the country's first CRESS agreement. Sustainability is core to how we build, operate, and grow. At DayOne, we are not only transitioning our campuses to renewable energy, we are working to embed ESG principles into every part of our value chain."
The commitment to full renewable energy use extends beyond DayOne’s operations, as the company works toward reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. DayOne’s customers will also benefit from these clean energy solutions, ensuring that their digital infrastructure is aligned with sustainable practices.
This partnership also aligns with Malaysia’s commitment to achieving 70% renewable energy in its power mix and advancing its net-zero ambitions. TNB is driving growth and job creation by reinforcing Malaysia’s energy infrastructure and supporting the country’s Green Lane Pathway Initiative.

CRESS: Enabling Efficient Access to Clean Energy
The Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), introduced by Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), allows corporate consumers to directly access renewable energy via TNB’s grid. CRESS is a vital component of Malaysia's transition towards a greener energy ecosystem, providing businesses with an efficient way to procure clean energy.
DayOne and TNB further strengthened their partnership in October 2024 with the signing of the Electricity Supply Agreement (ESA) and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the Green Lane Pathway Initiative. This collaboration also includes initiatives for rooftop solar via GSPARX, dark fiber connectivity through ALLO, and renewable energy solutions under CRESS.
