Ericsson Joins Swedish AI Consortium to Build Nation’s Largest AI Supercomputer

Ericsson, along with AstraZeneca, SAAB, SEB, and Wallenberg Investments AB, has formed a consortium to develop Sweden’s first large-scale AI Factory. Operated by a newly formed joint company, the facility will provide secure, sovereign compute access for industrial partners, driving collaborative innovation in artificial intelligence across the country.
The project’s first deployment phase includes two NVIDIA DGX SuperPODs using Grace Blackwell GB300 systems, making it the largest enterprise AI supercomputer in Sweden upon launch. The infrastructure is designed for compute-intensive AI workloads, including training domain-specific models and enabling advanced, large-scale inference and reasoning.
AI-Powered Innovation for Swedish Industry
This initiative aims to boost AI competence and foster knowledge sharing across Swedish industries. It will support innovations in sectors such as telecom, pharmaceuticals, defense, and banking. To further bolster this effort, NVIDIA plans to open its first AI Technology Centre in Sweden, enhancing joint research and collaboration with consortium members.
Ericsson CTO Erik Ekudden emphasized the project's strategic importance: “AI and 5G are critical in future competitiveness. We’re excited to join forces to position Sweden at the forefront of AI development.” NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang echoed the sentiment, calling AI “the engine of the next industrial revolution” and commending Sweden’s leadership in building foundational AI infrastructure.
Marcus Wallenberg, Chair of Wallenberg Investments, added: “This initiative will accelerate AI adoption, foster collaborations, and strengthen Sweden’s broader AI ecosystem.”
