HIVE Digital Technologies Acquires Toronto Facility to Accelerate Canadian AI Ecosystem Growth
HIVE Digital Technologies acquires a 7.2 MW facility in Toronto, strengthening Canada's AI ecosystem with high-performance computing and green infrastructure.

HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. has announced the successful signing of a purchase and sale agreement to acquire a facility in Toronto, Canada, with a total installed capacity of 7.2 megawatts.

This acquisition marks a significant milestone for HIVE as it continues to expand its high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure and strengthen its mission to develop a sovereign Canadian AI ecosystem.

The Toronto facility will serve as a key pillar for BUZZ High Performance Computing Inc. ("BUZZ HPC"), HIVE’s wholly owned subsidiary of HIVE. The site will support the deployment of liquid-cooled advanced compute infrastructure, optimized for large-scale AI training, inference, and cloud services.

This acquisition is aligned with HIVE's broader goal of providing secure, high-performance AI computing capacity to Canadian enterprises, government projects, and AI innovators.

Strategic Location for Growing AI Demand

The Toronto facility’s location in Canada’s largest tech hub provides a strategic advantage for BUZZ HPC. Toronto is not only Canada’s most populous city but also a renowned center for AI research, higher education, and advanced fiber optic connectivity.

The demand for HPC and AI capacity continues to explode, and this site positions BUZZ HPC to play a key role in meeting this demand. By establishing a sovereign data center in Canada, BUZZ HPC aims to provide data residency, security, and ensure national leadership in AI innovation.

Craig Tavares, President and COO of BUZZ HPC, said, "This acquisition positions BUZZ HPC at the forefront of Canada's digital infrastructure evolution. Toronto is not only the largest city in Canada, but also the country's most important center for higher education, AI research, and dense fiber optic connectivity.”

He added, “With the explosion of demand for HPC and AI compute capacity, this Toronto site gives us a critical footprint to develop a sovereign AI data center — owned and operated in Canada by a Canadian public company — ensuring data residency, security, and national innovation leadership."

Expanding HIVE’s Commitment to Sustainable Infrastructure

The acquisition aligns with HIVE's commitment to sustainable digital infrastructure. The new facility offers opportunities to integrate green energy sources, further advancing HIVE’s green-focused goals.

The facility will also be upgraded to Tier 3 standards, equipped with liquid cooling to support the next generation of GPUs for AI compute. Once fully upgraded, the facility will be capable of operating a GPU cloud of up to 5,000 GPUs, positioning it as a leading hub for AI and HPC workloads.
