IIT Madras Launches Advanced Certification Programme in Applied AI and ML
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), in partnership with the ed-tech platform Emeritus and IBM, has launched the Advanced Certification Programme in Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), as reported by The Indian Express.
This initiative is aimed at bridging the widening gap between AI innovation and industry-ready talent. The program is offered under the auspices of IITM Pravartak, IIT Madras' technology innovation hub, supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Target Audience and Curriculum Flexibility
Designed for professionals across diverse domains, this program supports career advancement in the fast-growing fields of AI and ML.
With a flexible curriculum suited to both technical and non-technical backgrounds, it is ideal for data scientists and software engineers seeking to deepen their technical skills, business analysts and consultants aiming to harness AI for data-driven decisions; and product managers or product owners looking to incorporate AI and ML into product strategy.
According to The Indian Express, the course is guided by IITM Pravartak-empanelled faculty members such as Professor C Chandra Sekhar and Professor Dileep A.D. and deals with both foundational and advanced subjects like Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and their applications in real-world scenarios.
The program combines self-paced learning with live masterclasses, a two-week capstone project, and access to over 25 industry tools like TensorFlow and Mistral.
Learners engage with 30+ real-world projects and research-based case studies, while building an industry-ready portfolio on GitHub and Kaggle to boost job prospects.

IBM Certifications and Career Opportunities
On successful completion, learners will be awarded three IBM professional certifications, confirming their competence and preparation for the job market. The participants also have the possibility of visiting the IITM Research Park to interact with faculty and researchers and other AI/ML enthusiasts, developing their network and learning.
