IIT Madras Launches Five Free Online AI Courses on SWAYAM Plus Platform

As part of the initiative to make education in Artificial Intelligence (AI) accessible to students from various disciplines, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) introduced five new AI courses on its SWAYAM Plus platform as reported by The Indian Express The courses are offered free of cost and target students from varied academic backgrounds such as undergraduate, postgraduate students, and working professionals.
Course Offerings and Description
A new series of introductory courses has been released, highlighting the broad applications of artificial intelligence across disciplines. Among them are "AI in Physics" and "AI in Chemistry," which highlight the use of machine learning and neural networks in addressing scientific challenges, and "AI in Accounting," which combines conventional accounting with AI-powered automation.
There is also "Cricket Analytics with AI," utilizing actual sports data for insights, and "AI/ML using Python," providing basics in programming, statistics, and optimization. Each course takes 25 to 45 hours, includes hands-on experience with actual datasets and case studies, and provides a certificate upon completion at a small fee. No experience in AI or programming is needed.
Eligibility and Enrollment
These courses are available to a broad spectrum of learners ranging from postgraduate and undergraduate students from various fields like engineering, science, commerce, arts, and inter-disciplinary studies. Teaching staff from higher education institutions are also invited to join. The only prerequisites for these courses are basic digital literacy and an eagerness to learn.
Interested candidates can apply via the SWAYAM Plus platform, and the last date for registration is May 12.

About SWAYAM Plus and the Courses’ Credibility
Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning) and SWAYAM Plus Coordinator at IIT Madras, shared that the courses are aligned with the National Credit Framework (NCrF). This means that these courses can be taken as credit-eligible programsby universities. Institutions can choose to integrate them into their academic calendars under skill development initiatives.
The SWAYAM Plus platform is a Ministry of Education initiative managed by IIT Madras. It offers over 380 employment-oriented courses in various sectors like engineering, IT, hospitality, and BFSI (banking, financial services, and insurance). Many of these courses are vetted by IIT experts and aligned with national credit standards, ensuring high-quality education.
