Meta AI Launches New AI Video Editing Tool in Edits App
Meta AI’s new video editing feature lets users transform short clips with creative AI-generated styles using preset prompts.

Meta AI app has introduced a fresh generative AI-powered video editing tool inside its Meta AI app that lets users stylise short clips with different preset prompts. These prompts, the company explains, help Meta AI change things like clothing, background, and overall look. The feature is also available in Meta's Edits app.

Meta AI’s video editing feature is currently limited to select regions including the US, but is expected to expand to more regions soon. The company also noted that the tool currently supports video clips up to 10 seconds long and is being offered for free for a limited time.

Meta AI’s video editing feature: What it offers

Meta labeled the AI-based video editor as easy to use and simple, with no need for pre-existing video-editing expertise. One simply uploads a clip onto the Meta AI app, the Meta AI website, or the Edits app, then selects from more than 50 pre-defined prompts. Once selected, Meta AI edits the video automatically based on the theme chosen.

Examples shared by Meta include turning clips into a “graphic novel” style, transforming subjects into vintage comic illustrations, altering gloomy weather footage to add a dreamy aesthetic, or converting scenes into a video game environment complete with neon effects and battle attire. Videos edited through the Meta AI or Edits apps can be posted directly to Facebook and Instagram. Additionally, the Meta AI app and Meta.AI website allow sharing to Meta AI’s Discover Feed.

The feature relies on Meta's Movie Gen models and was developed in collaboration with creators to detect prompts that resonate with their audiences. Though only fixed prompts are supported currently, Meta stated that user-specified text prompts will be supported in a future release.
