Meta has signed a landmark 20-year corporate nuclear energy agreement with Constellation Energy for the Clinton Clean Energy Center.

This agreement marks a key step in Meta’s ongoing efforts to power its operations with 100% clean, renewable energy, while exploring emerging energy technologies to meet the growing demands of its AI-driven services.

The Importance of Nuclear Power for AI Advancements

Meta is at the forefront of building AI technologies that are transforming industries and connecting people across the globe.

The company’s data centers house the infrastructure that powers these innovations, and ensuring they run efficiently is vital. Meta has committed to matching its electricity needs with 100% clean energy and recognizes that nuclear power plays a crucial role in providing reliable, firm electricity to support the growing demand for AI technologies.

A Landmark Agreement with Constellation Energy

Under this new agreement, Meta will secure the long-term operation of the Clinton Clean Energy Center, which provides 1,121 megawatts of emissions-free nuclear energy.

Starting in 2027, this agreement will ensure that the facility remains operational for two decades, adding 30 megawatts of additional capacity to the grid while supporting the local economy and community jobs.

This partnership guarantees that the Clinton plant will continue to contribute to the power grid without relying on state funding or ratepayer support, preserving over 1,100 local jobs and contributing $13.5 million annually in tax revenue. By continuing to operate this plant, Meta aims to help ensure reliable energy grids as the nation’s energy needs grow.

Meta’s Ongoing Focus on Nuclear Energy

In addition to the agreement with Constellation, Meta is actively pushing forward its nuclear request for proposals (RFP), which seeks to develop new nuclear capacity across the US.

This RFP, launched at the beginning of the year, has received over 50 qualified submissions from utilities, developers, and nuclear technology manufacturers, aiming to add 1-4 gigawatts of nuclear energy to the US. energy grid.

The RFP process prioritizes sites where nuclear development can proceed quickly with high certainty on execution and timeline. Through this initiative, Meta hopes to bring new nuclear plants online to support future data centers and provide reliable, clean energy for the AI revolution.
