Plus AI Voices Optimism for US Federal Autonomous Trucking Regulations

Hope for National AV Rules
Autonomous trucking giant Plus AI is optimistic about the US self-driving vehicles rules. The firm is a key player in autonomous trucking. The company’s VP of Public Policy, Earl Adams Jr., Shared this insight during a roundtable held in Detroit on June 3. The industry is reportedly facing conflicting state regulations that have hindered the large-scale deployment of vehicles.
Federal Efforts Gain Momentum
Through NHTSA, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy disseminated the Automated Vehicle Framework. The goal of the April unveiling was to update Federal Vehicle Safety Standards, which may facilitate the deployment of autonomous vehicles. Adams also underlined that FMCSA would oversee commercial autonomous vehicle rulemaking, but he also made it clear that DOT's authorization will be predicated on Congress' approval of vehicles without human drivers.
To strengthen DOT oversight, Senator Cynthia Lummis introduced the "Autonomous Vehicle Acceleration Act of 2025." House talks are anticipated to take place by the end of the year after the decision has been made to support the point.

Key Industry Concerns
There are certain issues that might be faced by autonomous trucks, one of them being the placing of emergency triangles, which cannot be done by autonomous trucks.
There are a number of labor groups that oppose the idea of autonomous trucks. One of the groups named Teamsters opposed it citing the issue of Job loss. Adams emphasized that the full automation is away, and drivers will still have a role to play now.
Plus AI aims to produce commercial trucks by 2027 and intends to go public through a $1.2 billion SPAC deal. To make that reality, federal assistance might be essential.
