Qualcomm Acquires MovianAI to Boost Generative AI Capabilities

Qualcomm has announced the acquisition of MovianAI, the former generative AI business of VinAI, a leading Vietnamese AI research company and Vingroup ecosystem member. The acquisition is designed to bolster Qualcomm's generative AI research and application capabilities by bringing specialized expertise in MovianAI into its global R&D operations.

VinAI has gained prestige for its developments in machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, and this deal is a strategic addition for Qualcomm as it deepens its stake in the AI space.

Drawing on Local Innovation for Global Impact

With more than twenty years of work with Vietnam's tech industry, Qualcomm has spearheaded innovation across 5G, AI, IoT, and automotive technologies. The acquisition solidifies Qualcomm's commitment to accelerating Vietnamese tech skills and amplifying their innovations throughout the world.

Jilei Hou, senior vice president of engineering, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, said, “This acquisition underscores our commitment to dedicating the necessary resources to R&D that makes us the driving force behind the next wave of AI innovation”

He added, “By bringing in high-caliber talent from VinAI, we are strengthening our ability to deliver cutting-edge AI solutions that will benefit a wide range of industries and consumers.”

VinAI’s Expertise Joins Qualcomm’s AI Ambitions

Dr. Hung Bui, founder and CEO of VinAI, stated that the company was ready to contribute to Qualcomm’s mission of advancing fundamental AI research and scaling it across industries such as smartphones, PCs, and software-defined vehicles.

He mentioned that VinAI’s expertise in generative AI and machine learning would help accelerate the development of innovative solutions to transform the way people live and work.

Led by Dr. Hung Bui, a former researcher at Google DeepMind, the MovianAI team brings deep experience in AI model development and customization. Their work has included both foundational research and the practical deployment of AI solutions across multiple sectors.
