Samsung to Deploy AI Coding Assistant 'Cline' Across Software Teams

Samsung Electronics ‘Cline’ is set to be rolled out next month across its software development teams. The AI assistant is known for coding assistance and is said to provide help in automating code suggestions and improving code review processes.
Approximately 500 Samsung engineers have already piloted the AI tool, and it has reduced the subsequent amount of workload, allowing developers to focus more on problem-solving and core logic. The company plans to extend access to nearly 10,000 global developers as part of its digital transformation strategy.
Based on Large Language Models (LLMs)
Samsung’s large language models (LLMs) are reportedly powering Cline for code generation and software documentation. The assistant is said to support multiple programming languages, including C, C++, Java, and Python. The evolution of the model will also be based on user feedback.
With the help of Cline, the firm aims to center its development cycles in areas such as mobile phones, semiconductors, and consumer electronics. It also reflects Samsung’s idea of implementing AI at every stage in its product and R&D pipeline.

The model works on the company’s secure on-premises infrastructure, where the code is not shared with external servers. The move goes hand in hand with the concerns in the usage of third-party generative AI tools that might compromise intellectual property.
Part of a Larger AI Push
With the adoption of Cline, the wider strategy of integrating AI-powered tools is given importance. With the implementation of AI everywhere, the company is positioning itself to lead in intelligent software development with consumer electronics as well.
