SingHealth Launches AIMI to Advance AI in Healthcare

At the opening of the AI Health World Summit 2025, SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC) announced the launch of the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Institute (AIMI). The guest-of-honor, Mr. Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State and the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, witnessed the event launch. AIMI will leverage SingHealth's data science and AI capabilities with Duke-NUS' academic community to drive research, education, and commercialisation.
Enabling Healthcare Professionals with AI
AI is transforming the health industry, helping to diagnose illness and clinical procedures and improve patient experience. The more prevalent AI becomes, the more critical it is to have an environment that supports healthcare workers to embrace these technologies in their practice.H
AIMI will provide healthcare professionals with the training and assistance necessary to create and construct AI-based solutions across all specialties of medicine. The Institute will fill the interstitial gap between technical expertise and clinical knowledge, promoting collaboration with international and local experts. AIMI will also offer grants and resources to facilitate the realization of innovative ideas.
AI101: Educating the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals
To further equip healthcare professionals and the public with essential AI knowledge, AIMI will introduce AI101, an online training series designed to provide foundational insights into AI’s application and considerations in healthcare.
Although the future of AI in medicine is immense, its ethical, responsible, and reliable application is crucial. AIMI aims to create robust governance through policy recommendations, publications, and guidelines to promote the development of responsible adoption of AI technologies in healthcare environments.

MOU between CHAI to Foster Ethical AI in the Healthcare Sector
Among the key highlights of the summit was a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between SingHealth and the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI), the first international partnership of CHAI. The alliance will further enhance Singapore's contribution to healthcare AI by establishing AI guidelines, white papers, and policy guidelines, as well as facilitating AI literacy via clinicians, developers, and public outreach.
Associate Professor Daniel Ting, Director, AI Office, SingHealth and Co-Director of AIMI said: "As AI becomes more widely used in healthcare, it is crucial for the tech industry and regulatory bodies to collaborate closely and proactively develop comprehensive guidelines to ensure that AI-driven solutions are compliant and in accordance with stringent safety guidelines and governance frameworks.”
Under the partnership terms, the alliance will host at least one Global Summit in two years, including international experts, policymakers, and healthcare leaders. The summit will share knowledge and best practices in AI governance and ethics.
