STT GDC Achieves 78.5% Renewable Energy Use, Cuts Carbon Emissions in 2024

STT Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) continues to make strides in its sustainability journey, achieving a significant 78.5% renewable energy usage globally in 2024. This marks a critical step toward its goal of carbon-neutral data centre operations by 2030. With innovative initiatives such as AI-driven cooling optimisation and the use of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) in Singapore, STT GDC is setting new industry standards in green energy adoption.
Environmental Impact and Carbon Emission Reduction
STT GDC's ESG report reveals a 22.9% year-on-year reduction in carbon emissions, exceeding its targets for 2024. The company also announced a pioneering move by deploying HVO for backup generators across its Singapore facilities, a first in the data centre industry. This move, along with a 66.2% reduction in carbon intensity from the 2021 baseline, demonstrates STT GDC's dedication to reducing its environmental footprint. Additionally, the company improved its power and water usage effectiveness, further solidifying its commitment to sustainable data centre operations.

Focus on Social Responsibility and Workforce Development
Beyond environmental impact, STT GDC has also made strides in social responsibility. The company has maintained a zero-work-related injury rate since 2020 and earned "Great Place to Work" certifications for its offices in India, Singapore, and Indonesia. STT GDC continues to invest in employee training, averaging 23.5 hours of training per employee. In 2024, the company also partnered with local conservation groups to plant 1,000 mangrove trees in Indonesia, contributing to biodiversity and climate change mitigation efforts.
