TotalEnergies and Mistral AI join forces to develop AI-powered low-carbon energy solutions through a new joint innovation lab.

TotalEnergies has announced a strategic collaboration with Mistral AI, a leading French artificial intelligence company, to advance AI innovation in support of the company’s multi-energy strategy.

This partnership will focus particularly on low-carbon energy solutions, as TotalEnergies seeks to enhance its energy production and environmental footprint reduction.

Joint AI Innovation Lab to Foster Cutting-Edge Digital Solutions

TotalEnergies and Mistral AI are launching a joint innovation lab to develop AI-driven solutions for energy. It will focus on tools for researchers, decision-support systems to cut emissions, improved customer experiences, and AI applications in renewables.

In response to the growing importance of digital sovereignty in Europe, TotalEnergies and Mistral AI will also explore opportunities to develop and adopt AI infrastructure within Europe. This collaboration will help ensure that TotalEnergies' AI-driven innovations are secure, aligned with European regulations, and optimized for local use.

Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, said, “We are delighted to work with Mistral AI, a leading French player in artificial intelligence. This deal reflects our intention to contribute to the emergence of a technological ecosystem in Europe, and will allow us to explore new opportunities to further embed AI into our activities.

He added, “AI has huge potential to transform energy systems, and this partnership was motivated by our pioneering spirit and ongoing search for innovation.”

TotalEnergies’ Technological Vision and AI Integration

This partnership reflects TotalEnergies’ increasing reliance on digital technology and AI to support its transition toward renewable and low-carbon energy. Historically, TotalEnergies has utilized AI in earth sciences, predictive maintenance, and facility optimization.

AI has an even more critical role in assisting the company in lowering its carbon footprint, creating renewable energy solutions, and designing innovative services that enable customers to make the best of their energy consumption.

TotalEnergies' Digital Factory, which is marking its fifth anniversary this year, features 300 developers, data scientists, and digital experts who have created more than 100 solutions, several of which use machine learning and generative AI technologies.
