Wordsmith AI, a leading provider of AI-driven infrastructure for legal teams, announced today that it has secured $25 million in Series A funding, led by Index Ventures.
This significant investment will be used to scale its AI infrastructure platform, which deploys fleets of legal agents across organizations, empowering them to streamline workflows, accelerate deal cycles, and make informed decisions faster.
Empowering Legal Teams with AI-Driven Solutions
The rise of AI in the legal profession is creating new roles and transforming the way legal teams operate. Wordsmith’s platform is at the forefront of this change, equipping General Counsels (GCs) and in-house legal teams with AI agents that can assist in everything from answering legal queries to processing complex workflows.
The company’s Legal Enablement Platform functions like an air traffic control system for legal teams, helping guide teams toward the right decisions with greater speed and efficiency.
Ross McNairn, said, “We are helping GCs embed their legal intelligence across the business. Gone are the days of legal being seen as a blocker, it is now a revenue accelerator.”
He added, “We’re witnessing the birth of an entirely new role in legal: the legal engineer. These are the people training, deploying, and managing fleets of AI agents. We’re helping to re-skill an entire generation to do it.”
Wordsmith's customer base includes major brands such as Trustpilot, Remote.com, Deliveroo, Multiverse, and Docplanner, among hundreds of others. The company has seen strong revenue growth across both the UK and US, with plans to open offices in London and New York later this year.

The Emergence of Legal Engineers
Wordsmith’s AI-powered platform is not just transforming how legal teams operate but also reshaping the job landscape within legal departments. As AI agents become embedded across corporate functions, a new role is emerging: the legal engineer.
These professionals are responsible for training, deploying, and supporting fleets of AI agents, and their role requires a unique combination of legal knowledge and technical expertise.
In response to this shift, Wordsmith is investing significantly in training and upskilling legal professionals. The company's efforts are helping to prepare the next generation of legal professionals to harness the full potential of AI, thus enabling them to take on more strategic and impactful roles within their organizations.
