AI-Powered Eye Scan by Acer Medical Cuts Diagnosis Time from Weeks to Seconds

Acer Medical, a Taiwan-based subsidiary of the Acer group, has unveiled a groundbreaking AI-powered diagnostic system that is transforming eye disease detection. Leveraging advanced artificial intelligence and Intel hardware-based technology, Acer Medical’s diagnostic software now allows eye conditions like diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration to be diagnosed in seconds. This is a remarkable shift from the traditional process, which could take weeks due to the involvement of multiple specialists and lengthy assessments.
AI Assistance for Faster, More Accurate Results
The AI-assisted system uses high-resolution fundus photography to scan the eye’s interior, with algorithms that analyze images in real-time. Unlike conventional methods, this AI-powered solution removes the need for dilation-related eye drops, drastically reducing the wait time for patients. Moreover, all the data crunching is performed locally on Acer’s AI PC, eliminating the need for internet connectivity. This makes the system highly beneficial for remote healthcare services, ensuring quicker diagnosis even in underserved areas.

Expanding Accessibility Across the Globe
Developed by Dr. Hsieh Yi-Ting, a retina specialist at National Taiwan University Hospital, the diagnostic software includes VeriSee DR for diabetic retinopathy and VeriSee AMD for age-related macular degeneration. The technology is currently available in 13 countries and is already implemented in over 300 hospitals and clinics, serving around 450,000 patients annually. By enhancing the capabilities of medical professionals, these AI tools help doctors prioritize cases, expedite treatment, and ultimately provide faster and more accurate care without replacing the essential role of the healthcare providers.
Acer Medical continues to innovate in the AI-driven medical diagnostics space, contributing to more efficient and accessible healthcare solutions globally.
