Google Gemini Launches Scheduled Actions to Rival ChatGPT

In a significant update, Google has enhanced its Gemini AI assistant with a feature called Scheduled Actions, aiming to match OpenAI's ChatGPT in terms of productivity and user automation. Announced at Google I/O, the new tool allows users to automate tasks and receive personalized updates without the need to repeat prompts, making daily interactions with Gemini more efficient.
Automating Tasks and Proactive Updates
Scheduled Actions enables users to program Gemini to perform tasks at specific times or on a recurring schedule. This includes simple requests like receiving a motivational quote every morning at 7 AM, updating a grocery list every Friday evening, or getting a daily news roundup at lunchtime. This feature allows Gemini to act proactively, streamlining tasks that would traditionally require repeated prompts, thus enhancing the user experience.

Availability and Limitations
Currently, Scheduled Actions is limited to a specific group of users. The feature is accessible to those subscribed to Google’s AI Pro or Ultra plans, as well as eligible Workspace business or education accounts. While ChatGPT limits users to scheduling a maximum of ten tasks, Google has not disclosed whether Gemini will have similar constraints or how it will handle expired or replaced tasks, leaving room for speculation on future capabilities.
Continuous Evolution of Google Gemini
Alongside Scheduled Actions, Google is working on further improving Gemini’s capabilities. The company plans to release an upgraded version of its Gemini 2.5 Pro model, which will feature enhanced coding capabilities. Moreover, the Gemini Live interface is becoming more user-friendly, with a new swipe-from-the-right edge feature for quicker access, replacing the previous method of tapping a dedicated button.
This move positions Google’s Gemini as a stronger contender in the AI assistant market, competing directly with ChatGPT by offering tools aimed at increasing user productivity and convenience.
