IIT Kanpur and NMexus Sign MoU to Foster Global Collaboration in Clean Energy, AI, and Advanced Technology
The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NMexus, a New Mexico-based non-profit Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), to expand their collaboration in clean and sustainable energy, aerospace, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, quantum computing, robotics, and advanced manufacturing, as reported by the Statesman.
This partnership is set to enhance cooperation between academic institutions, research laboratories, and industry stakeholders in both India and the United States, focusing on global challenges and the promotion of sustainable development.
Expanding International Collaborations for High-Impact Research
Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, said, “This partnership with NMexus reflects IIT Kanpur’s continued commitment to expanding international collaborations that support high-impact research and innovation. We aim to co-develop technologies that address key global challenges in clean energy, AI, aerospace, cybersecurity, medtech, and advanced manufacturing.”
The partnership also aims to boost efforts in technology commercialization and joint research ventures to develop scalable solutions.

NMexus Centre to Support Technology-Led Initiatives
Amar Vakil, Executive Director of NMexus Centre, said, “This partnership between NMexus and IIT-Kanpur lays the foundation for global collaboration in science, technology, and economic development.
He added, “By linking New Mexico’s growing innovation ecosystem with world-class talent and research from India, we are catalysing opportunities that will benefit communities on both sides of the globe.”
As part of the agreement, NMexus will support technology-led initiatives through its Centre located in the Mesa del Sol Innovation District in New Mexico.
According to the Statesman, the Centre is designed to assist up to 40 companies annually, with the potential to create 1,500 jobs and contribute over $400 million to the New Mexico economy over the next five years. The Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham launched this initiative at the SelectUSA Investment Summit in May 2025.
