OpenAI Expands in South Korea with New Office and Local Entity

OpenAI is further cementing its presence in South Korea by opening its first office in Seoul and establishing a local entity, as reported by Reuters. The move comes as demand for OpenAI's ChatGPT service soars in the country, making it the second-largest market in terms of paying subscribers after the United States.
Increasing Demand for AI Solutions in South Korea
South Korea's vibrant AI ecosystem, spanning everything from silicon to software, has made it a key focus for OpenAI. The company is now actively hiring staff to support its growing partnerships in the region.
Jason Kwon, OpenAI’s Chief Strategy Officer, said, "Korea's full-stack AI ecosystem makes it one of the most promising markets in the world for meaningful AI impact, from silicon to software, and students to seniors.”
Collaborating with Local Companies
According to Reuters, earlier this year, OpenAI also entered into a collaboration with Kakao, a major South Korean chat app operator, to develop AI products tailored for the local market. This partnership underscores OpenAI’s commitment to advancing AI technologies that cater to the specific needs of South Korean users.
