Schneider Electric launches Agentic AI, a pioneering system designed to collaborate with human experts for real-time, sustainable energy and decarbonization management.

Schneider Electric, an energy management and automation provider, has announced a pioneering multi-year initiative focused on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into sustainability and energy management.

The initiative centers around a novel technology called Agentic AI, which is designed to work alongside human experts as a digital teammate, enhancing decision-making and optimizing outcomes in real-time.

Revolutionizing Energy Management with AI

The core of this initiative is the deployment of Agentic AI, a new breed of software agents capable of independently or collaboratively working with clients and consultants. Unlike traditional software, which is typically used as a tool to assist in tasks, Agentic AI is embedded with the ability to anticipate needs and adapt to complex environments, significantly simplifying and automating sustainability management processes.

This marks a shift towards AI-native ecosystems that continuously improve energy and sustainability outcomes, streamlining the management of decarbonization efforts.

Steve Wilhite, President of Schneider Electric’s sustainability business division, said, “Our vision is collaborative intelligence - agentic AI that works alongside human experts as a true digital teammate.”

He added, “This technology allows us to create a force multiplier effect where complex data analysis and tasks are automated, freeing our clients to focus on the strategic initiatives and innovations that lead to greater impact - a fundamental shift in how organizations can accelerate on their energy and decarbonization journeys.”

Key Features and Strategic Focus

The initiative will leverage AI to create an intelligent ecosystem that serves as both a command center and coordination layer for energy management. This platform will integrate human expertise and enterprise systems to create a seamless, adaptive workflow that drives sustainable impact.

The first step will involve reimagining core functionalities of Schneider Electric's existing software platforms, while incorporating new features from the acquisition of EcoAct, a leading sustainability firm. These include decarbonization strategy, emissions management, reporting and compliance, and resource efficiency.

A Sustainable Future with AI

Schneider Electric's commitment to computational efficiency is central to the design of this AI ecosystem. The company has pledged to minimize energy use, emissions, and costs through the integration of frugal AI, ensuring that AI models remain lean and efficient while maintaining performance.

Amy Cravens, research director of sustainability and ESG software at IDC, highlighted the importance of domain expertise in the effectiveness of Agentic AI, noting that Schneider Electric's deep knowledge in sustainability is crucial to creating a system that will help organizations meet the increasingly complex challenges of the future.
